The Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) is reviewing Industry Reference Committees (IRCs) to ensure the structure and membership of each IRC provides the best possible industry coverage and expertise to support training package development for each industry sector. For more information about the review process see the IRC Review page.
The Corrections IRC is responsible for the CSC Correctional Services Training Package.
The primary role of the Australian correctional services sector is to effectively manage prisoners and offenders serving community corrections orders, providing a safe, secure and humane environment that takes into account the offenders’ needs and the wider community needs. A subsequent aim of the sector is to reduce the risk of re-offending and facilitate a successful reintegration into the community through the provision of services and intervention programs targeting the source of the offending behaviour.
IRC Structure
The table below shows a proposed structure for the Corrections IRC. The proposed structure for the IRC was open for public comment and consultation up to 9 December 2016.
Nominations for vacant positions on the IRC will open at a later date.
It is important to note that the proposed Corrections IRC is unique to other IRCs given that the industry is regulated and administered by each state and territory. If approved in its current form, all positions on the IRC would be allocated and the one position open for nomination would be the employee association position.
If you are interested in nominating for a vacant position on the Corrections IRC please keep an eye on this webpage.
If you would like advice about the call for nominations to be sent to you directly, please let us know by completing the AISC feedback form.

Responsibility for most aspect of justice administration is devolved to state and territory jurisdictions. Correctional officers generally work in state/territory correctional services or with private operators who are contracted by correctional services agencies. This should be reflected in the employer representatives on the IRC.
