Aviation Industry Reference Committee (IRC)

The Australian Industry Skills Committee AISC called for nominations from industry stakeholders for the vacant organisational positions on the Aviation Industry Reference Committee (IRC). Nominations closed COB Friday 23 December 2016.

The Aviation IRC is responsible for the AVI Aviation Training Package. The qualifications and units of competency available under this training package can be viewed here: AVI Aviation Training Package AVI Aviation Training Package.

The AISC seeks to ensure that the membership of the Aviation IRC, as a whole, provides the best possible industry coverage and expertise to support training package development for the industry. The AISC is looking for individuals with extensive experience in, and knowledge of, their industry sector, with the capacity to proactively apply these attributes to the work of the IRC.

Please note that while it may not be possible to include every nominee on the IRC, it is important to remember that the Skills Service Organisation (Australian Industry Standards Limited) and the IRC will consult widely during the training package development process and will be supported by Technical Advisory Committee members who may be consulted on technical and related specific industry information on an as-needs basis to support the decision-making of the committee.

Further information about the role of IRCs and how they will operate can be found in the IRC operating framework.

IRC Structure - Feedback

The draft structure for the Aviation IRC was published on this website on 14 November 2016, providing an opportunity for industry to comment on whether the structure would adequately represent the industry.
The AISC welcomed the comments received from a range of stakeholders and there was general agreement that the structure is sound and should proceed to a call for nominations.

In response to feedback that there are a number of employee associations in the aviation industry, including some professional bodies, a second position has been added to the IRC structure to provide for employee associations representing different groups of workers.

Comments were also made both for and against a designated position for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs). The structure does not include a specific position allocated to an RTO. RTOs will, however, be called upon when establishing a Technical Advisory Committee. This will ensure that RTOs’ expertise and in-depth knowledge can be utilised in the training package development process.

For more information about the review process please see the IRC Review page.
